Out Now: THE SHADOW DANCERS OF BRIXTON HILL

Bill surprised me last week with this awesome cover cake.

Authors know that nothing in publishing happens fast…except when it does.

Last spring, I first got the idea of a troupe of dancers who could make their shadows dance independently of their bodies. By mid-July, I had a draft I was comfortable submitting to publishers. After the first rejection, I reworked the novella and tried again. I got one of the nicest rejections I’ve ever received with my second try, which made me think someone somewhere would want this.

I submitted it to Cemetery Gates Media, who’d published two of my short stories, on a Thursday night in January 2023. That Saturday morning, they made me an offer to publish. When they told me they could have it out by June, I was astounded. I worked through my bout with COVID-19 to make the edits Joe suggested. And sure enough, the novella came together just as he said it would.

And today it’s out. I will be bringing ARCs and an excerpt to read at StokerCon in Pittsburgh this weekend.

It’s available in eBook and paperback here. If you liked Tidepool, I think you’ll like this. If you hated Tidepool, I think you still might like this. I hope you do; it’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever written. And if you read it, please, please, please leave an honest review—yay, meh, or nay—on Amazon and anywhere else you can.
