It’s Official: TIDEPOOL is a Stoker Nominee

I’ve been chewing my nails for the last month since the Bram Stoker Awards® preliminary ballot was announced and Tidepool was on it. But at last I can say it: My little overachiever is an official Bram Stoker Award nominee in the category of Superior Achievement in a First Novel.

I saw that there were six nominees and instantly thought “Crap, someone forgot to take my name off the final ballot” before I saw the info about the tie. Ha. Screw you, impostor syndrome.

Being on the preliminary ballot was exciting enough, but this? I’ve been letting my inner Sally Field out to play all day.

I wanted to keep my expectations for Tidepool modest when it first came out, but there was always a voice in the back of my head saying “But wouldn’t it be cool if…?” I tried to ignore that voice as much as possible, celebrate Tidepool’s actual wins, and not think about the if.

Today I’m celebrating the if. I am shouting the if from the rooftops. Sometimes the if happens, and when it does it’s the most amazing feeling.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported Tidepool on this journey. And if you’re one of those writers who feels like everyone around you is getting great news while you’re getting nothing, I’ve been there too. Trust me and believe that your day will come. Mine just did.
