\"\"<\/a>So as you have probably figured out by now, I didn\u2019t win the Stoker. The award went to the very deserving Hailey Piper for her novel Queen of Teeth.<\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Of course,\u00a0I\u2019d have liked to win, but I\u2019m still over-the-moon tickled to be a Stoker finalist. Tidepool<\/i> is a very personal, meaningful book to\u00a0me far beyond it being my debut novel, and it means the world that HWA members thought it was worthy of that recognition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve ever wondered if being nominated for a major genre award makes the impostor syndrome go away, though, I\u2019m afraid the answer is an emphatic No<\/i>. There\u2019s always that evil little voice murmuring \u201cHow\u2019d you<\/i> get in there?\u201d and \u201cYou know you didn\u2019t really deserve that, right?\u201d Always.<\/p>\n

So it was very nice to get on Twitter on Thursday\u00a0morning and find out that Tidepool<\/i> has been nominated for the 2021 Ladies of Horror Fiction Award for Best Debut Novel. Two<\/i> award nominations? I’m blushing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m especially grateful that this recognition comes from Ladies of Horror Fiction. As the name suggests, they do a lot to promote women horror writers, as horror has often been a man\u2019s game in the past. It\u2019s truly an honor that they\u2019ve chosen Tidepool<\/i> as one of their Best Debut nominees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
