Joe Biden is our President-Elect. Kamala Harris is Vice President-Elect.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I feel about like I did in 2008 when Barack Obama won, like I was in the end of \u201cReturn of the Jedi\u201d with celebrations breaking out all over the country. (And the world.)<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I think I said just about everything that needed to be said in the last entry, but I watched Biden and Harris\u2019s acceptance speeches tonight and felt like I was taking a warm bath after a long, cold, hard exile. These last four years have felt like four decades.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t get me wrong; I\u2019m still upset that the election was this close. I know Biden can\u2019t wave a magic wand in January and fix everything Trump fucked up. I know it\u2019s vanishingly unlikely that the Republicans in Congress will work with him; they\u2019d rather let the country burn to the ground than allow a Democratic president to get any credit for putting the fire out, as we saw with Obama. And the dark, ugly, racist and bigoted energies Donald Trump unleashed in this country aren\u2019t going away.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0They&#8217;re probably\u00a0going to get worse now that Trump&#8217;s supporters\u00a0have decided that the election was only fair if Trump won.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But just for now, I\u2019m going to be optimistic. Whatever else happens, in just a couple of months I will never, ever have to see Donald Trump, his demonic plastic-faced family, or his pathetic hangers-on ever again.
